800VDC to isolated multi rail power up to 1.5kW, engineered for extreme subsea reliability
This project focused on the design of a high voltage subsea power supply operating in extreme deep sea conditions. The system converts an 800VDC input into multiple isolated output rails including 32V at 10A, 24V at 30A, and 5V at 5A, delivering up to 1.5kW total output power. The architecture is built around high density Vicor power modules, enabling a compact footprint while maintaining thermal performance and efficiency at high load conditions. Each power domain is fully isolated, including sensing and fault paths, ensuring safe operation under high voltage stress. Precision voltage and current measurement is implemented through isolated analog front ends, allowing accurate monitoring without compromising isolation barriers. The system integrates dual battery paths to support redundancy, enabling continuous operation through seamless charging and discharging. A comprehensive protection strategy is implemented with overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent detection, combined with isolated fault reporting for system level integration. The design is intended for subsea drilling systems operating at depths of up to 6 km, where reliability and fault tolerance are critical.
