1 kW Automotive BLDC Drive System

A compact three phase drive built to move an automotive BLDC motor at 48 V and 21 A continuous, peaking at 1 kW, without ever giving up the feedback or safety an automotive environment demands. A TI DRV8350 gate driver feeds the power stage under closed loop control from encoder, Hall, and three phase current sensing, with CAN and UART for command and telemetry and a hard emergency stop path.

Safety and thermal integrity defined the work. Emergency stop, gate driver fault feedback, overcurrent sensing, and thermal monitoring combine into a layered protection scheme, while carrying 21 A in a compact outline made the power stage layout central: heavy copper, careful thermal dissipation, clean gate drive, and strict separation between the high current path and the sensitive feedback and control circuitry.
